The DR-8 or Wuzhen 8 (WZ-8) is a supersonic reconnaissance drone developed by China to support military operations in the South China Sea or Western Pacific. The drone can fly at speeds above of Mach 3 at high altitude in order to provide targeting information for the DF-21D and DF-26 aircraft carrier killer ballistic missiles. The DR-8 drone was first shown in September 2019 but it is believed that it entered service within the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) time ago. The missile is powered by two rocket engines and there are some doubts of it being hypersonic instead of supersonic.
